Everyone is ugly in Tally Youngblood's world until the operation. Tally can't wait until she turns 16 because that means she will then be a pretty! No more oddly shaped eyes, lips, or mismatching arms. She will go from bogus to bubbly in a matter of minutes. But of course nothing goes exactly the way she plans it when she meets Shay. Tally thought that Shay and her were the best of friends, they have the same birthday and would become pretty together very soon.
